I used to host a Xonotic server for /v/ between 2016 and 2021. Formerly, this server was one of the most active servers in Xonotic despite XonStats overreprresenting instagib CTF servers at the time. (XonStats had accounted only for number of matches, not the manhours spent on servers.) But naturally, interest in the game server died out over time.
Most of the players served including myself were new to the genre. Therefore, the server configuration and map curation was intended to assist new players in learning the fundamentals. But this did not involve nerfs that would diminish or distract from the feedback players needed.
